Point Grey TFC travelled to Portland, OR this weekend for the Portland Track Festival. The meet took place over both Saturday and Sunday evenings and featured many top North American distance runners. Theo Hunt started off the competition in the Men’s 10000m which was underscored by the return of former American 10000m record holder Chris Solinsky. Hunt just missed the 30 minute barrier but still ran a solid personal best of 30:15, good for 6th place. The race was won by Nouredine Smail of France in 28:56.57 and Solinsky placed 3rd  in 29:05.41.

Opening Sunday night’s competition was Rhiannon Evans in the women’s open 1500m where she ran to a close second place finish against Annie Hill with a time of 4:29.79. Next on the track was Tamara Harris in the 4th section of the women’s high performance 800m. Harris ran to a commanding win and personal best test time of 2:08.78. Then Devan Wiebe took the to the track in the 2nd section of the 800m and ran 2:05.23 in a tight race for 4th place. The men’s 800m high performance heats followed, with Nigel Hole representing Point Grey well in the 4th section. Coming off of a slow start, Hole led the charge down the 2nd back stretch but had to settle for 3rd in 1:51.88. Adam Byles competed in the 2nd section of the Men’s 5000m. He placed 8th in 14:44.25.

In the final event of the night Luc Bruchet contested the 5000m which featured a stellar field highlighted by none other than the Olympic champion in this event, Mo Farah. Luc ran a strong race despite a fluctuating pace and finished 9th, beating out German Fernandez in a time of 13:45.66. Farah won the race with a blazing 53 second last lap in a time of 13.23.42.

It was an exciting competition all around with many other Canadian and BC athletes posting strong results. Full results can be found at http://www.sheltoninvite.com/SI/live/14614/
